New Delhi

Delhi 016 Our first stop in India was New Delhi. New Delhi was really interesting for lots of reasons. Even though its population is over 15 million people, there were still a lot of birds and animals. One reason for why there are so many birds and animals is because the main religion in New Delhi is Hindu and the Hindus don?t believe in killing or hurting animals. Because of this, not only are there lot of birds, but there are also cows, goats, monkeys, horses, mules, and pigs walking around on the streets and highways.

Delhi 086 In only a day of walking in New Delhi, we saw a wild short-tailed bandicoot-rat, lots of five-striped palm squirrels, a bunch of rhesus macaques, black eagles, rose-ringed parakeets, and house crows. The next day, after seeing so many rhesus macaques, we read an article about a monkey who went mad and bit 25 kids. I guess the five monkey catchers were off duty that day. One monkey we saw was being chased by a dog along a wall. It was really fun to watch because the dog was barking while the monkey was running away along a wall.

Delhi 260 New Delhi is different from big cities in China. In China there were no animals or birds, so it was exciting for us to even see a pigeon. If there were animals in Beijing, people would just shoot and eat them because in China, unlike in India, people have no respect for animals.

One of the only things I didn?t like about New Delhi was that the goats being sold on the streets were about to be eaten. I still had a lot of fun in New Delhi, though, and hope to come back sometime to see more animals and birds.
